Newton, story of a young, honest and naive clerk who haven't yet seen the life is totally one of the finest political satire the nation has seen so far in last few years. First thing First, Newton is such a kind of story which the major part of our Indian audience don't prefer to watch. Reason being polity films are usually boring and deeply intellectual that is not easy to understand by a non political person ( that a major part of our audience is!)
But Newton has broken all these myths very finely. The script has been written in a very universal and simple manner that even a non political person can relate to it very easily and that's the beauty of it. The direction of Masurkar doesn't give any moment to you to use your mobile phone in between the film. There is not a single scene in the film where audience feel bored or distracted. The element of humour is included very smartly in the whole film. It's not at all easy to play with humour in such dark themes. But Masurkar has done a very fine job.
The dialogues are short, sweet, humourous and very impactful. There is a dialogue when Newton says to Malko (Patil),"9 bje ka time hai, mein time pe aata hu, inko badi baat lagti hai." In this three line dialogue, Masurkar, on the face of it,has smartly slapped our System where lethargy and work shirking are rampant. And into more deeper insights, he has shown this human tendency to think that they are doing a big favour on the system by merely doing their jobs. The conversations between Malko and Newton also force us to think rationally. Moreover the indifference of villagers has been shown very beautifully. The scenes where they were misguided and forced to vote are truly heart moving. The humming in between the scenes is making it more intense. It seriously gave me goosebumps. There is a scene where the military people go to the village and force the villagers to accompany them to the voting booth. And villagers run away from the militants timidly, and in cut shots there is a cock trying to escape from the hands of village lady. As soon as the villagers are caught by the military people, the cock also gets caught and killed. This is a very powerful depiction of symbolism that might is right. They can't ever escape the militants and militants would keep using them as per their convenience.
As far as actor's performance is concerned. All the actors have done a beautiful job. The innocence of Newton is clearly visible in Rajkumar's eyes. Pankaj Tripathi as a military person has done a terrific job. The wisdom of the experienced military person can be seen in his acting. The calmness in his dialogues made it more authentic.
Patil and Yadav has also done an equally amazing job.
At the end, Newton is not a film that is made on every second day. This quality of content is made once in a blue moon. No matter what your genre is, you would enjoy this film. It's a complete feast to your grey matter as well as humour taste.
