Kalyanam Conditions Apply: What's Good & The Scope Of Improvement

Kalyanam Conditions Apply is a sweet and sour journey of a cute married couple. The show highlights the pleasures of the little things we often don’t pay any heed to. The show has three seasons till date but, I will be focusing on season one only.

What is good: The script is the king of the show. From the couple’s arguments to the adjustments they make for their love, everything is so relatable. Scenes like Senthil’s mother always calling and cribbing about something or the other never fail to leave a smile on our faces because we know how authentic that emotion is! In episode 4^th of season 1, we get to see a quick flashback of how sweetly the couple acted before marriage and how they have turned out to be completely opposite, another example of simple yet wonderful storytelling.

The scope of improvement:  

• The budget constraints were visible in terms of the audio and video quality of season 1. The lights used were very bright too. However, the season 2 and 3 didn’t leave a chance for us to complain. 
• The most disturbing part in season 1 was the supers of Nippon paints appearing on the screen. This was certainly impacting the viewing experience. The brand integration could have been done smartly where we could show the characters promoting the brand with the help of organic dialogues. But I understand, in the end, it is a brand’s call as they are the sponsors. 
• Minute details were not given enough importance in the season. For example, in episode 2^nd, we saw how everyone was going gaga about Senthil’s transformation after he joins the gym. Sadly, the viewers couldn’t find a single ‘before & after’ difference. Better makeup, costume, and styling could have helped here.
• If we speak about episode 3, Senthil is shown leaving the kitten on the streets to die. This indirectly empowers the insensitive behavior towards animals and could have been avoided. Alternatively, he could have given the kitten to a stranger animal lover or the writers could have come up with something else that doesn’t promote animal cruelty.

Conclusion: Kalyanam Conditions Apply is indeed a wonderful show that deserves a watch. This is the reason that the show is already a hit property with three seasons. The makers are getting better with each season. Hope to watch season 4 soon.
